Ask a dozen successful business owners what it takes to grow a successful business and you'll get a dozen different answers. There are certainly "musts" in creating a successful business.
You must deliver a solution to the customers problems or deliver a product or service that makes the customer feel the way they want to fee.
You must exceed the client's expectations in order to keep the customer loyal.
And you must do these things consistently.
But... after 30 years in marketing and consulting I've learned a couple basic things that separate the successful businesses from all the rest. Success is not having a good product or service - the world's full of good products and services. It's not just satisfying customers. Satisfied customers today aren't always loyal in today's competitive environment.
The one thing that separates successful small businesses from the rest is great marketing.
Great marketing can't fix a bad business, but it can take a good business and make it a market leader. But the reality today is very few small business owners have a clue how to create effective marketing.
My name's Mitch Henderson, and for the past 30 years I've been a marketing consultant, ad agency owner, corporate marketing executive, and now a professional marketing speaker.
I created this web site because small business owners need it. Large businesses have marketing departments, consultants, and big budgets. But who's helping the little guy?
All over North America, (and the world) there are small business owners trying to succeed who understand their craft, but have little understanding about the science of marketing. They struggle along trying to attract new customers, stumbling in the dark, wasting money and opportunities. This doesn't have to happen.
Inside you'll find both information and resources. The content will be continually growing and evolving, so I encourage you to keep checking back in. Here's what you'll find in this web site.
One of the most common questions we get is about how to create effective ads, specifically, how to create ads that work in the local newspaper. We've created a whole section just that - how to create and administrate an effective newspaper campaign. It's great information that applies to all print media.
Antler on Small Business Marketing is a complete e-book, with 37 great short stories that will teach you some invaluable lessons about effective small business marketing. The book is a fictional account of a small town called Antler, home to Della's Koffee Kup, the center of the marketing universe. The stories represent the most important lessons I've learned in my 30 years as a marketing consultant.
Marketing Smart is a series of 13 short one to two minute videos that walk you through the process of creating an effective marketing campaign. Quick, easy to watch, but very practical video lessons. You'll want to save these and share with your friends.
In the Ad Repair Clinic I fix poorly designed ads, demonstrating why some ads work and others fail. The section includes some videos as well that graphically demonstrate how to create ads that work.
The Knowledge Bank is a growing bank of articles from experts on a variety of subjects. Browse here often as the knowledge bank will continually grow.
